The Nightcliff Seabreeze Festvial 2010 - The Big Day Saturday May 1st.

1.2 Kilometers of Activities and fun from 1pm - 10pm beginning at the Jetty end of Casuarina Drive!

1. Youth Stage - Sunset Park

On the Youth stage program we have DJ Fish, Leroy and friends to bring live, funked-up and soulful music to your ears, Alluring and breathtaking aerial circus demonstrations, and energy infused shows by the Cyclone Circus troupe, The D-City Rockers will  bust out some incredible break maneuvers to keep it fresh and edgy, and of course there will be much more! This Stage has been funded by Festivals Australia.

Programmed by a crew working with Corrugated Iron Youth Arts, the Youth Stage will feature an amazing array of young artists working in aerial circus, ground level circus, live music, dance and performance.

In addition, bring along any pre loved clothes, music, toys, games, trashy treasure, and intriguing junk to trade at the huge Swap Meet, which will be happening simultaneously side stage!

2.00 pm to 5pm - Nightcliff Lions Club Peoples Choice Art Awards – Art arrives between 11 and 12

Activities

1.00pm to 5.00pm - Giant Fish – Interactive Artwork and Demonstration - Constructed by Christiaan Snoek, Festival Participants are encouraged to colour their scales and add them to the Giant Fish which will become the Parade Mascot calling all little fish to the Grand Parade. The Giant Fish will then be placed on display around Nightcliff, on the foreshore, at nightcliff shopping centre and at the Nightcliff Markets on Sunday at the culmination of Festival week.

1.00pm to 5.00pm – Little Fish – Fish Making  Workshop - Festival Participants will be encouraged to construct their own little fish to carry in the parade. Workshop support and materials provided - simple versions for younger children, more complex for those who want to sink their teeth in!

1.00pm to 5pm – Chai Tent and Performance Space - Sit back; enjoy the view of the Arafura Sea, the performers and the artwork while sipping a special local Chai brew developed specifically for the Nightcliff Seabreeze Festival

2.00 pm - Laid back Jams all day, Open Mic

2.30 pm - Darwin Theatre Company - short performance - “Midsummers Night Dream”

5.00 pm - Jam/Open Mic until Close

4.45pm – Marshall Point for Cyclists, speech on bicycle safety as parade prepares to leave at 5.00pm

3.The Ausdance NT Dance Stage

The Jetty Stage is once again being coordinated by Ausdance NT, and will be located at it’s usual breezy home right near the Nightcliff Jetty. The lineup is looking amazing with over a dozen dance groups and schools showing their wares! Performances will cover a diverse range of styles, moods and movement genres during the afternoon program, including

4. Hon. Jane Aagaard Sand Sculpture Competition

Sculpting begins – As soon as you can get to the sand! (low tide is around 2pm and its all underwater by 8pm!)

Judging - Takes place during the afternoon from 3.30 PM and prizes are announced at the Music Stage at 6.pm

Sponsored by the Hon. Jane Aagaard, the Seabreeze Sand Sculpture Competition is open to all ages and groups. From professional sand sculptures to kids with buckets, this competition is now in its 6th year and prizes are hotly contested.

5. Top End Folk Club Stage

Activities Begin – 3pm

Territory grown music with spoken word from the Top End Folk Club

6. Kite Surfing Demonstration

Demonstrations begin 2pm (depending on wind!)  - Kite surfing is a surface water sport that uses wind power to pull a rider through the water on a small surfboard or a kite board (similar to a wake board). Its exciting just to watch! Come down and talk to the crew from Fun Supply about how you can get involved in this awesome sport!

7. Community Village

Activities Begin 3pm

2.00pm to 6.00pm Community Stalls, info tents, clothes swap, Pacific Islander Coconut Palm Demonstrations, library story time organic food tasting

9. Music Stage

Surrounded by banyan trees and shade, the Music stage showcases the best homegrown musical talent Darwin has to offer and provides an opportunity for school performances and local community groups to perform and demonstrate their works before around 6000 festival attendees. The Seabreeze Bar will be open from 3pm and food stalls are located close by making this an ideal spot to relax and enjoy the show.

After dark, Geoff Carr will be set up for stargazing to the left of the main stage. Geoff has a wealth of knowledge to share and  the view should be amazing (cloud cover etc permitting of course!)

MC – Gail Evans - A well known multi-skilled local performing artist. An experienced co-producer, director, writer, theatre performer, actor, festival project officer; and dancer, Gail has been long recognised one of Darwin’s comic geniuses.
